Eight of our aspiring young tennis players went to Bromley very early on Wednesday morning (14th June) to participate in the Kent LTA’s Primary Schools’ Doubles Heats. There were 23 pairs in the boys’ heats and 20 pairs in the girls’ heats, with the Deal Parochial children being the only representatives from East Kent.
All our children played some fantastic tennis.
Jack and Che (both Y3) won their round robin group without losing a game to claim their place in the Finals.
After finishing their group in runners up position, Liam T and Charley (both Y3) had to hold their nerve to win a further 2 matches against other runners up to successfully qualify for the Finals.
Ruby and Mia (both Y3) played with great consistency throughout to finish runners up in their group and so earn their place in the Finals.
Our final pairing of Bobby (Y2) and Liam B (Y1) played ever so well, especially considering that their opponents were much older than them. They narrowly missed out on qualification, but we were very proud of their performances and look forward to them competing for us again next year, in this 8 and under event.
Good luck to Jack and Che, Liam T and Charley, and Ruby and Mia, at the Finals in Bromley on 23rd June.
Also, many thanks to all the parents that drove and supported us, and to Daniel, who fulfilled our umpiring duties with me.
