Forty of our pupils (representing every year from 1 to 6) took part in the qualification heats for the Kent LTA’s Primary Schools’ Tennis Doubles Competition at the Polo Farm Tennis Complex in Canterbury.
In the morning, we took 10 boys over who competed in the orange ball and green ball events, despite the rain. All our pairs played very well with Bobby (Y4) and Che (Y5) qualifying for the boys’ green ball tennis finals and Liam and Jamie (both Y5) qualifying for the boys’ orange ball finals.
In the afternoon, 30 more children came across to Polo Farm. Twenty-six of them played sponge ball tennis indoors, and performed with lots of skill, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship. From this, Isla and Amelia (both Y3) topped the girls’ group to win their place at the finals, and Artie and Jamie (both Y3) won through in the boys’ section.
We also had 4 girls playing in the girls’ orange ball heats, and Ruby and Mia (both Y5) came second overall to claim their finals place.
Well done to everyone who took part with such great spirit. It was lovely to see so many happy faces during the matches and at the end of the tournament.
Also, a special thank you to Luke, Jack and Liam (all Y5) who all helped with umpiring the sponge ball matches with great care and maturity.
Additionally, thank you to all the tennis parents who drove the children to and from Canterbury, and provided such wonderful support for them. We couldn’t have taken part without you!
