Girls’ Football: Whitecliffs 2 – 0 Deal Parochial.

The girls’ football team played their first league fixture of the season against Whitecliffs Primary School in Dover on Thursday 23rd November, 2017.

Although Whitecliffs were the more dominant team over the course of the game, our girls matched them with tenacious tackling in both defence and midfield, as well as making many timely interceptions. Both teams had chances to break the deadlock in the first half, but at half-time, we changed ends with the score still at 0-0. In the second half, Olivia’s fantastic drop kicks and Aggie’s great goal kicks helped us maintain an attacking threat, even though we were having to do a great deal of defending. Part way through the second half, Kaitlin did a wonderful clearance off our goal line to stop Whitecliffs scoring. However, shortly after, we were unfortunate to concede a goal. In a bid to try to equalise, we pushed Lulu further forward to join Flo in attack; this almost had the desired effect as Lulu ran with the ball down the left wing before cutting inside to shoot from a tight angle and narrowly missing.  Whitecliffs then managed to score a second goal to finish the match 2-0 winners.
I was very proud of all our team. All the girls played with 100% commitment and a fantastic team spirit throughout. It was also very nice to receive a post-match compliment from the Whitecliffs’ coach who said our “girls played brilliantly”.
Great effort girls! I look forward to our next match.  Also, many thanks to the parents who helped with transport and were such great supporters.
