INTER-TEAM TENNIS TOURNAMENT: BLUE TEAM WINS

A pre-Christmas feast of tennis took place at the Deal Indoor Tennis Centre (DITC) on 28 Nov17 when Deal Parochial held its first inter-team tennis tournament.

24 pupils, from across years 1 – 6, played a total of 30 matches. The children, who had very little or no previous experience of competitive play, were paired up into doubles and played timed tennis in either sponge ball or orange ball format. Once the whistle went to start each round of matches, there was a great hubbub of tennis activity as four sponge ball games and one orange ball game took place simultaneously.

There was much excitement, engagement and enjoyment over the afternoon, and it was lovely to see so many parents and grandparents there, supporting their children. The final results were:

1st: Blue team with 35 points
2nd: Red team with 31 points
Joint 3rd: Yellow and Green teams with 27 points each.

Well done to all the children taking part with such enthusiasm. Special thanks must go to:
– George B, Jack B, Anya, Bo and Mia, for standing in on the day to cover for illness, having had no specific preparation for this tournament; your commitment to tennis allowed the tournament to proceed as planned.
– The parents who helped with the walk from school to DITC and who scored the sponge ball matches with some of the orange ball players.

All the children were congratulated on their tennis performances in the school assembly the next day, with the blue team receiving the Inter-Team Competition Cup. Well done everyone!
