Deal Parochial’s Trip to the ATP Tennis Finals at the O2.
On Sunday 11th November, a small group of our keen Year 5 tennis players enjoyed two top quality matches in the opening session of the ATP’s End-of-Year Tennis Finals at the O2 Arena.
The first match was a doubles match including Jamie Murray with his partner, Bruno Soares. This was a very tight match with lots of amazing volley rallies at the net. Eventually, much to our delight, Jamie and Bruno won by the deciding championship tie-break.
Next was a fantastic singles match between Kevin Anderson and Dominic Thiem. The power of both men’s play in both serving and rallies was awesome. The majority of us were supporting Anderson and the boys really enjoyed cheering him on to victory. Anderson closed out the match after holding his nerve in the tense second set tie-break, which he won 12-10.
The afternoon session then finished with Novak Djokovic receiving his trophy on court for being World No.1 at season’s end for 2018. It was a good end to a fantastic afternoon of tennis.
Many thanks to Daniel, who helped Mr Earl and myself, with the running of this trip.
Mrs Hodgson.
