Finals Day at Wimbledon
On Saturday 13th July, Deal Parochial had another fantastic school outing to The Wimbledon Championships. We made an early start to ensure that we were there at opening time so that we could enjoy some amazing wheelchair tennis.
After watching Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid play in the doubles final on Court 3, we were delighted to get their autographs, together with Clare Balding.
We also went over to Court 12 and were lucky to meet the Quad Wheelchair Finalists, Andy Lapthorne and Dylan Alcott.
After the obligatory Wimbledon Shop visit, we proceeded to our seats on No.1 Court to watch the end of the Girls’ Final and some veterans’ tennis including Andrew Castle and Jeremy Bates.
During the rest of our day at Wimbledon, we wandered around the grounds (including Henman Hill), met Alfie Hewett again, tried out some virtual reality tennis and sampled the complimentary Robinsons Cordial.
We also met Simon Mundie from the BBC and watched with genuine excitement as one of our group was filmed with him as part of a review, which was then broadcasted the next day on BBC1 prior to the Mens’ Final.
It had been an excellent day which will live long in all our memories.
