Deal Parochial’s Girls’ Football Team Finished Joint Runners-up in Dover Schools Games.
On Tuesday 8th October, the girls’ football team travelled to Dover Christchurch Academy to participate in this year’s Dover Schools Games.
Teams from seven schools took part, with us being the only team from Deal. Every team played all the other teams in one round robin box, and all matches were 10 minutes long.
We won our first match 1-0 against Capel, following a direct corner strike from Ruby.
Next we drew 0-0 draw with Green Park.
Our next match was against Sibertswold; Ruby was very influential again and scored two well taken goals to win 2-0.
Our fourth match was against Temple Ewell; this proved an even contest. Initially Alice scored her debut goal following a skilful turn and well-struck shot. However, Temple Ewell were consistently dangerous in attack and equalised in the latter stages of the match to finish 1-1.
Our penultimate match was against Whitecliffs; although we made some good early chances, we didn’t score. As the match progressed, Whitecliffs became the more dominant side; Abi, Mia and Ruby worked hard in defence to prevent Whitecliffs from scoring, but eventually Whitecliffs made the breakthrough to win 1-0.
St Richards from Dover were our final opponents. The girls rallied really well in this match to win 2-0, with Ava scoring her debut goal for school, quickly followed by her second!
Well done to all the girls, especially to Sophia (Y5) on her debut for the school football team. We finished joint 2nd.
Many thanks to Mia’s Mum and Dad, and Alice’s Grandma for helping with the transport to the tournament.
