Girls’ Football – 2 League Matches in Consecutive Weeks.

Our girls’ football team have had a great start to their league campaign this season.

On 13th November we played Kingsdown in a very even match. There was effort, commitment and sportsmanship in abundance from both sides. Kingsdown took the lead in the first half with an unstoppable shot from the edge of our area. However, our girls carried on working hard for each other and were rewarded in the second half when a well struck shot from Ruby (Y6) was only partially saved by the Kingsdown keeper and Ava (Y6) was on hand to put the ball in the net. Our keeper, Ellie (Y6), ensured that the game finished 1-1 by making a fantastic save in the last moments of the match, tipping the ball over the bar when it looked certain to be finishing in the roof of our net.

The Kingsdown fixture then concluded with an entertaining friendly for the B teams; once again, the match was evenly contested. It finished 0-0.

On 20th November, we then played St Richard’s from Dover and won 5-0. There was great teamwork throughout and the girls grew in confidence as the match progressed. The girls passed the ball very well, and I was delighted to see our throw-ins being used so effectively to start attacking moves; for our second goal, Grace’s (Y5) wonderful throw-in allowed Ruby to break down the wing and then set up Ava for her first of four goals.

Well done to all the girls who played in these matches. I was very proud of all your commitment and sportsmanship.

Also, thank you to all the parents and friends who came and supported us. (I hope you did not get too cold yesterday!)

Mrs Hodgson.
