DP Tennis Round Up for September 2023.

It has been all systems go with our school tennis programme since returning from the summer holidays.

Marke Wood Recreation Ground’s Tennis Courts: We commenced our weekly tennis PE lessons and our after-school Y4-6 tennis club on 6th September at the Marke Wood Tennis Courts. We are very grateful to the community tennis programme at the Marke Wood Tennis Hub which allows schools to use these lovely re-surfaced courts for free.

US Open Team Challenge: 18 pupils took part in this fun, after school tennis tournament at the end of our first week back. Children learnt about the ongoing US Open, the US version of our Wimbledon, before proceeding with many mini matches, as well as an Activ-all team event.  Congratulations to Savanna, Dylan and Lexi who were our overall Team Challenge Winners.

Dover School Games: We entered two Y4 teams in this mixed doubles tennis tournament that took place at Marke Wood on 14th September. The weather was glorious, and all twelve of our players played with great determination, respect and camaraderie throughout, winning numerous matches. Our A team won through several tight matches to win their round robin box, and our B team did really well to finish as runners-up in their box.  In the resulting final, our A team narrowly lost to Kingsdown 5-7, 5-6, 5-6. – Well done to both our teams; myself and Mrs E were very proud of you all!

Winter League Tennis: Former pupils, Luca and Jamie, represented our Deal Parochial Outreach Tennis Club in Division 1C of the 12U boys’ Winter Kent Youth League. Well done to both of them as they played some great tennis against some very experienced opponents.

Winning Pennants from the Summer League for our Deal Parochial Outreach Tennis Teams: We are delighted to have received 2 winning pennants – the first that we have ever received – for former pupils, Ruby and Abi (14U Girls team), and Luke and Jack (16U Boys team), after both pairs finished the summer season topping their divisions in their respective leagues. Many congratulations to them all.
