Cricket Round-Up – Spring / Summer 2023

We have had lots of fun cricket activities during the last few months at Deal Parochial.

At the end of term 4, Kent County Community Cricket Coach Molly Davis came into Deal Parochial and delivered a fantastic Cricket Engagement Day on behalf of the cricket charity, “Chance to Shine”

The day started with an enjoyable, interactive assembly where children learnt about the many life skills that cricket can teach such as resilience, empathy, competition, sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership.

Afterwards, each of our KS1 and KS2 classes took part in fun cricket related games with Molly. Despite the weather, all the children had a great time.  Many thanks to Molly and Chance to Shine for such a brilliant day of cricket.

In the final week of term 5, Deal Parochial hosted 2 cricket competitions open to all the schools in the Deal Learning Alliance.

Our Year 6s represented us in the KS2 Kwik Cricket Tournament and won all four of their matches to deservedly become champions.

In the KS1 ‘Three Tee’ Cricket Tournament, our team of Year 1 and 2 pupils competed with great spirit against the other participating primary schools, finishing 5th.

Many thanks to our Y6 cricket helpers who scored the KS1 matches with great proficiency and encouraged all the young players.

Finally, last week, we celebrated our school’s passion for cricket by holding a ‘Strawberry Bash’.

All the children in Year R and KS1 classes had fun having a go at ‘Three Tee’ batting with Year 1 accruing the highest class average score, just beating Year 2 by 7.8 to 7.5 points per batter.  Many congratulations to a fantastic display from Year R too, who scored an average of 5 points per batter.

The afternoon then concluded with strawberries for all as Year 6 competed against a mixed team of staff and players from the other KS2 year groups in a massive |Kwik Cricket Match.  Well done to Year 6 who convincingly won by 259 runs to 222 runs.
