Wonderful Trip to the Wimbledon Championships 2023.

Nine of our enthusiastic Year 6 tennis players had a fantastic day out at Wimbledon on the final Saturday of the Championships.  We left Deal train station at 6.55am and reached the Wimbledon grounds just before 10.30am.

After initially exploring the grounds, we settled down to watch the entertaining men’s wheelchair singles semi-finals, splitting ourselves between Court 1 and Court 3 since they both had British players taking part.  Alfie Hewett won his semi-final whilst Tokito Oda, the Japanese number 1 seed, won his semi-final against Gordon Reid.  The boys watching the conclusion of the Number 3 Court match were then delighted to meet both Gordon and Tokito.

Next, we made the obligatory visit to the Wimbledon shop before enjoying strawberries and cream in the LTA Advantage Lounge.

Then we returned to Number 1 Court and thoroughly enjoyed the scintillating Wheelchair Doubles’ Final between Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid and Tokito Oda and his doubles’ partner.  It was so exciting to be able to cheer Alfie and Gordon to victory over the 3 amazing sets of tennis.  The children were so captivated by the match that they agreed afterwards that they preferred wheelchair tennis to tennis.  It was the perfect way to finished our day at Wimbledon.
