Inter-school Kwik Cricket Competition

 

Deal Parochial hosted the first ever DEALT Kwik Cricket Tournament on Wednesday 29 September.  Thankfully the weather was kind to us and the tournament proceeded without a hitch.  This was a relief, since the tournament had originally been organised for the summer term but had to be postponed due to COVID.

 

80 children from six DEALT schools took part and thoroughly enjoyed their day of Kwik Cricket. All teams were given a name after a famous Kent Cricketer; Deal Parochial’s teams were called ‘Darren Stevens’ and ‘Alan Knott’. 

Both teams played really well, and Team ‘Darren Stevens’ won their first two matches to reach the Final where they played Kingsdown 1 (aka Team ‘Colin Cowdrey’). The final proved to be very exciting, with the momentum shifting back and forth between the two teams due to some great batting, accurate bowling and amazing run outs. It was a fantastic final and Deal Parochial’s Team ‘Darren Stevens’ won by 239 runs to Kingsdown’s Team ‘Colin Cowdrey’ 224 runs.

 

Well done to everyone who took part.  It was wonderful that so many of our DEALT Academy Schools were able to join together for this fun, sporting event.

 

Many thanks to all the teaching staff who organised for their school team(s) to attend.  Also, thank you very much to our Vice- Chair of Governors, Councillor Derek Murphy, who is a massive cricket fan and suggested this Kwik Cricket Tournament. He then very kindly donated the Rose-Bowl Trophy, the participation medals and the cricket bat prizes, which were given out for the best pieces of research on the Kent Cricketers who form the team names.
