McCarthy Cup Football Tournament – Semi-Finals – Nov.02.21

Year 5 and 6 boys returned to  school football this week, taking part in the annual McCarthy Cup tournament at Warden House.

Deal Parochial were pooled in group 2, which consisted of Kingsdown, Downs and St. Mary’s primary schools.

First up was The Downs; each match was 7 minutes long and both schools were cancelling each other out, but with a few minutes to go on the clock and some superb link up play by Liam, Jake and Isaac in midfield found Noah in space for him to slot in the winner and secure a 1-0 win.

Next up was Kingsdown, and as always this match always produces fine football from both schools, with Deal Parochial creating the most chances, they couldn’t find a way past a resolute defence, both teams continued to push for a winner but the game finished 0-0.

With results in the other games going in Deal Parochial’s favour, Deal knew a win or a draw would be enough to progress to the finals against a good  St.Mary’s team.  Again both teams pushed each other to open their account  but neither team could, and the game ended in  a 0-0 draw.

Deal Parochial topped their group and will now go on to the Final which will be held at Warden House next Tuesday 9th November.

Well done to the school team for your exemplary behaviour, team spirit and fair play throughout the competition..
