Investigating Surface Tension in After-School Science Club.

The third round of Science Club sessions investigated the surface tension of water.

They learnt how water molecules hold tightly onto each other, so producing the water’s surface tension. They also saw the effects of washing-up liquid reducing the water’s surface tension; this was due to the washing-up liquid molecules getting in between the water molecules and disrupting them.

The children then had great fun blowing a variety of bubbles, achievable due to the washing-up liquid decreasing water’s surface tension.
